Introduction : Jute is the fine, whiter and soft fibre of a  kind of fibrous plant. We get it from the back of this plant. The Jute plant grows six to ten feet high. It is golden in colour. It is our main cash crop. So, it is called the golden fibre of Bangladesh.


Where grown : Bangladesh is the home of Jute. It grows well in hot and wet climate. It grows in Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Brazil, China, Japan and Indonesia. But the best quality of jute grows in Bangladesh. About eighty present of the world produced jute grows in Bangladesh.


How grown : The cultivation of jute is a difficult process. It requires hard labour.  At first the land is ploughed and manured well. Then seeds are sown in March or April. Little plants come out in a few days. When the little plants become a few inches high, grass and weeds are carefully pulled out. The jute plant takes about three to four months to grow to its full height.


How jute is taken : The jute plants are cut down and put in water for about two weeks. Within two or three weeks the jute plants become rotten. Then the farmers take out the fibre from the stick . Then the fibres are washed and dried in the sun. Thus jute is made ready for use and sale.


Usefulness : Jute is a very useful good. Rope, gunny bags, carpet, paper, cloth etc. are made of jute. There are many jute mills in our country. Many people work there. Bangladesh exports a huge quantity of jute to many foreign countries every year.


Conclusion : Jute is the main cash crop of Bangladesh. We earn a lot of foreign money by exporting it to many foreign countries of the world. So, jute is called the golden fibre of Bangladesh.
