Floods of Bangladesh
Floods has become a daily phenomenon in Bangladesh. it's a drag . It often rains torrentially and therefore the rivers flow above the danger level. This overflow of water is named the flood.
There are many reasons of flood. Excessive rainfall is that the main reason of flood. When there's heavy rainfall, the rivers overflow their bank and therefore the adjacent low land. during this way flood is caused.
The flood of 1970 caused by the tidal surge was a deluge. Then the fearful floods happened in 1974 and 1988. No sooner had the wound been healed up than the flood of 1998 befell. The flood of 1998 is that the most remarkable within the century because it lasted for nearly three months.
Flood causes tons of devastation. It destroys our life and property. It washes away villages, towns, everything. Roads and houses go under water. Trees are uprooted. It damages our crops and renders people homeless. They take refuge in class , colleges, and in relief camps.
The after effects of floods are very terrible. People suffer greatly for want of food, pure beverage , shelter and medicine. Cholera, typhoid and dysentery escape in a plague form. the costs of daily commodities go high and other people cannot buy them.
In spite of the devastation, there are a couple of useful sides of flood. Flood water carries silt that increases the fertility of land. Flood water washes away dirty and filth and helps cleaning our surroundings and therefore the surrounding areas. to stay unaffected from flood, the subsequent measures are often adopted.
By build up dams and embankments, the crops of the low lying areas are often saved. There should be profuse tree plantation of those embankments in order that the onrush of flood water cannot make a breach in them. The rivers should be dredged to stay their normal flow and to permit water to travel right down to the ocean .
